THE BUDWEISER HOME CHEF THROWDOWN
In August, a panel of culinary judges chose two recipes from online submissions, based on concept, creativity, originality and the incorporation of Budweiser beer.
The two home chefs who were selected – Michael Hager and Nicole Pace – went to work on the Stella Artois Culinary Stage in the elimination round, to determine who would compete in the final round. Nicole's "Citrus Spike" took first place, beating Michael's "Beechwood Lime Chicken", and she advanced to the final, "Throwdown" competition.
Next, Nicole was required to compete against the 2015 Budweiser Home Chef Throwdown Champion, Amber Nicol, in the final round. Both chefs had the opportunity to choose their final dish (which had to incorporate Budweiser beer), and bring their best game.
Nicole prepared a "comfort food" dish consisting of pan fried chicken thigh with rice and a mushroom-beer gravy, with a side of beer-battered corn on the cob and Mexican beer-cornbread. Amber's creation was called "The Kings Land and Sea Mac & Cheese". It centered around a beer-sauce mac and cheese and included Budweiser candied bacon and Budweiser Premium BBQ Sauce Shrimp.
For the second year in a row, Amber walked away with a prize package valued at $2,500, which included an Anhueser-Busch VIP Beermaster Tour for ten people, a Budweiser Brand patio grill and accessory combo, a custom Rhineland Cutlery knife set and a custom champion chef jacket.
